Verbs of Being Definition (English Grammar)

In traditional grammar and pedagogical grammar, a verb that does not show action instead indicates a state of being. In other words, a state-of-being verb identifies who or what a noun is, was, or will be. Although in English most being verbs are forms of to be (am, are, is, was, were, will be, being, been), other verbs (such as become, seem, appear) can also function as verbs of being. Compare them with stative verbs, and contrast them with verbs of doing (dynamic verbs), or action verbs. Stylistic Advice: Avoid "Be" When You Can Unfortunately, to be verbs do not make for the most exciting writing to read when a piece is overloaded with them (buzzing with bes). Action verbs are stronger than to be verbs because they portray more imagery. Action verbs also make for more impactful, shorter sentences, as to be verbs often are found in passive sentences as well. Replace being verbs where you can, during your editing round of writing your piece. (The drafting phase is for getting your information organized and put together.) Not all being verbs or even passive voice can be avoided, of course, but where they can be replaced, your sentences will be livelier  and punchier and will flow more quickly. Improving Examples Compare the following sentences and their improvements: Jerry was working hard.Jerry worked hard.Mary is a big fan of Bach.Mary adores Bach. In the latter improvement, the verb was changed completely, to be more descriptive. Excising Passive Voice To get rid of passive voice, turn the sentence around and start with the doer of the action rather than the object of the action. See the difference between: Their house was invaded by bugs.Bugs invaded their house. The package was sent by Bob.Bob sent the package. Passive voice has its place, such as when the result is more important than who did the action. For example, The record low temperature was broken last night, after 104 years, or when the actor is unknown, such as in, Its recommended to have the furnace serviced once per year. (Though these sentences still could be revised out of passive by adding subjects and recasting them, such as We hit a record low last night, breaking a 104-year record and Manufacturers recommend having...) Hamlet's "To Be or Not to Be" One of the most famous being verb sentences surely is the famous soliloquy of Hamlets, in his eponymous Shakespearean play. Author Crystal Downing reminds us, though, that people need to take into account the fact that the speech is written in iambic pentameter when working out its meaning: When people pronounce Hamlets famous line, they usually emphasize the that, as though Hamlet cannot make up his mind about killing himself: To be, or not to be—

Kinesthetic Learning Style Free Essays

One of the things I should consider as a kinesthetic learner is the fact that I absorb information better when it is hands-on (physically engaged in the activity of learning, i.e. lab setting). We will write a custom essay sample on Kinesthetic Learning Style or any similar topic only for you Order Now As such, I may have to utilize techniques to make my learning style coincide with an online course wherein the mode of instruction is mainly auditory and visual. It would be an advantage if the visual aspects invite interaction in the form of flash presentations wherein I as the student can actively participate. Kinesthetic learning although typified by physical processing through touch and sensory experience can still be present in online courses by mere participation through clicking and typing during the actual discussion. My attention and capacity to grasp the information would be enhanced by taking notes using a word processor due to the fact that I am able to learn the concept while keeping my body in active awareness of how my mind deciphers the information. In addition, taking down notes about the course as well as my thoughts during the online lecture would allow me to better retain the information (Interview with Laura Summers, 2000). I may have to explore beyond the actual contents of the course and see how they actually are by doing a bit of fieldwork so as to have first had experience of the subject matter. It would really be helpful for me to try and create creative representations of the notes and data I acquire from my online lessons. I may convert the key concepts into tangible form by making graphs, making a model as illustration(Miller, 2000). An interactive online course would suit my learning style better, however, I must find ways in which to adapt to the subject matter even if the mode of instruction does not directly address my kinesthetic inclinations. The techniques mentioned above would definitely help me in reconciling the latter with the teaching process available. In combining the auditory and visual method with my own need for hands on receiving of information; I may have an edge in holistically understanding the course beyond the internet. For introduction of the new product like Hybrid cars to the markets, proper business attention and integration is to be developed and modified within the business case. The micro environmental factors are discussed here like: Are You Daunted by the Thought of Due Assignments? Avail Our Services and Receive Assignment Help from Experts. Employees: Employees are the base of the organization and in Toyota Australia, there is formal communication structure being placed and ensured to provide the feedback for the same. In response to the present business scenario, the employees are well informed and motivated for the variety of services and products which are communicated to them for being the part of effective team and group within the company. As the Prius itself is the innovative and creative product, the employees are motivated and rewarded for further business and proposition. Resources: The company Toyota has also considered the availability of resources and thus the company has come up with manufacturing and assembling unit within the country where from there is also export made to the New Zealand and other neighbour geographical regions. There are tangible and intangible resources both needed and those are like power, workforce, knowledge, raw material, metal, fabrics and cotton etc which are important and easily available in the Australian market. Shareholders: The shareholders are the people who are responsible for the funding and they are to be pleased with the perfect attention to the different attribution to the business and profit making scenario which are incorporated within the business and the process engagement of the company (De Haan, Mueller and Peters, 2006). There should be sufficient and effective process, operations and marketing coordination given to the company and the consumers with respect to the business and revenue generations and those are to be improved with the business process scenario within the company Toyota. Dealers and suppliers: The dealers and the suppliers are presented within the companys success and business integration and there are subsequent attention given to them in respect to attain the proper market share. There is also regular suppliers and dealers interaction with the company and the consumers to understand and predict the needs accordingly. Consumer perception and behaviour about Toyota Prius: The company Toyota is at present the largest car manufacturer and seller in the world and it has different types of products to cater into different segments of the consumers. The company was not initially prepared for the hybrid cars and there were only emphasis on the expansion to the different large and mid range vehicles to cater into the mass market in EU countries and US (Sandberg, 2012). With the advent of environmental and sustainability campaigns and the increased value of environmental programs and risk triggered the company to innovate and develop the cars which are more eco friendly and having less environmental impact. The Toyota Prius was the first hybrid car to be entered in the Australian market and the company has also indicated the different prospects like less fuel emission and less environmental impacts. As stated earlier, the Prius was developed within the Hybrid segment of cars which are more targeted to the premium class of the consumers (Beliveau, 2010). The c onsumers were not initially accepting the car due to new and changed features and with price attached. Later the Prius became a status and statement to the others. The consumers are happier to buy Prius due to the innovative and distinct designs and there are also the pricing strategies which helped the company to sell and present the Toyota Prius in the appropriate market and eager consumers. The Australian consumer are also having different options for Hybrid cars like Honda Civic, Toyota Cambry etc but the distinctive feature and design with the performance in the presented market and environmental aspects and those are to be also required to make the consumers satisfied with the correct attention to the new values and offerings of the Toyota Prius in the Australian market (Kley, Lerch and Dallinger, 2011). The different variables are like product, price, place and promotion (Kotler, 2012). Product: The product here is Toyota Prius which is a Hybrid car. Hybrid technology is used in vehicles to supplement the conventional petrol engine with electric battery and motor. The engine is then powered with more efficiency and less fuel consumption with lower environmental impacts by the vehicle and this also helped to control and integrate with more power and performance within larger cars with less erosion and fuel consumption (Graham-Rowe et al., 2012). The product is also an supplement to the higher fuel like petrol pricing and thus the cars can be integrated within the two aspects also. The Toyota Prius has different models and variants at present in Australia and those are like Prius C or V class in the market. Price: The company Toyota has not introduced the car with Scheming pricing for getting the car more profit and then lowering the price as per the market is engaged with competitor. The company has integrated with penetration pricing and those are relevant to entre in the new market with the new product which was not perceived before (Beliveau, 2010). This pricing strategy helped the company Toyota to retain and maintain the market share and thus in present market statistics, more than 50% of the hybrid market segment is considered and developed within the Toyota Prius. The pricing of Toyota Prius though is higher than the general engine cars and it is also regarded as the substitute to the higher end cars in Australia like BMW, Audi, Mazda, Mercedes etc. Promotion: The promotional campaign in the Australia and other market is considered with different objectives and those are to be also engaged with different attention to the marketing mix and marketing orientations within the company. In that respect, the initial promotional activities were done on the environmental aspects and then the promotional activities were done to communicate the consumer with the advantages for the practical and day to day transportation options (Graham-Rowe et al., 2012). The company has tried to integrate with the social media, digital and online promotional campaigns and there were e-brochures presented within the market to communicate with the present marketing strategies. The later promotional campaigns also tried to depict the utility of the car with size and comfort and those are to be also developed in order to attract more consumers within the market. Place: The company has adopted dealers and suppliers throughout Australia and there are almost 210 dealers, with 277 outlets and other Lexus dealers located within the Australian Subcontinent with almost 13000 people employed and integrated within the business. The company has also tried to incorporate the formal structure and proceeding within the dealer relationship to maintain the proper and adequate business considerations in Australia. Recommendation: The company has taken the decisions to close the production in Australia within the year 2017. This is mainly to achieve the long term sustainability in Australia and those are to be effective from the management decisions on strategic and business propositions. Toyota Prius is the market leader in the hybrid car segment and those are to be maintained with more product development and innovative strategies integrated within the business. The company should look for more stable and sustainable market and those can be achieved by proper market research. The Toyota Prius can be also presented to the developing countries for establishing a new market. There can be also new product life cycle introduced within the Toyota Prius by modification and product development done. Conclusion: From the above discussed project and understanding, it can be ensured that the Toyota Prius is the market leader in Australian hybrid market and that is to be also maintained by the company for attaining proper direction to the future business proposition. The company has implied the perfect marketing strategies for Toyota Prius and those have ensured the future proposition to the market and the companys probable activity to be more informed and sustainable in Australia. Clut IT Essays - Information Technology Management, Distribution

Club IT Part Two The past few months of researching Club IT?s information technology, data management, and decision-making capabilities has uncovered many opportunities for improvement. Ruben and Lisa need to take advantage of the information resources that are available to them in order to promote the business. Three problems that Club IT faces are ourdated communication resources with customers. Customers are internet savvy and use wireless communications regularly. Too many vendors for their supplies, Ruben and Lisa?s supply chain is too broad and can be minimized. Third lack of effective information management. Club IT?s information management is currently limited and needs to be broadened. These problems can be resolved through CRM (Customer Relationship Management), SCM (Supply Chain Management), and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Ruben and Lisa can increase client retention and enhance their relationships through customer relationship management. Because most customers are now using mobile technology and wireless communication, they can order tickets to weekend concerts over their phones. Customers can also be tracked through their orders and be texted or emailed when the club has food or drink specials. Instead of setting up a separate website for tickets, a webmaster can come in and redesign the current site to have separate web pages and portals. Customers can access concert tickets, the virtual tour, survey and comment section, and even make reservations. A web discount can be offered for customers who order in advance online. Bundling merchandise such as the t-shirt and cap will also help with CRM by making customers feel they are getting more for their money. Less phone and in-person ordering saves time for the clients and staff. Ruben and Lisa are currently using 6 vendors to order their food and beverage supplies. This needs to be streamlined through supply chain management. Sysco is a major supplier for restaurants. They carry gourmet flavored coffees, disposable napkins and stirrers, 2. Club It, Part Two Club IT is a nightclub owned by former college classmates Lisa Tejada and Ruben Keys. This club is located in Augusta, Georgia near a college where students over 21 come together enjoy with friends, to dance, listen to music, eat, and drink. In the past several months I have been doing internship at this business. The club has flourish since the website and club has made some improvements. Lisa and Ruben called me in for a meeting to discuss the website and want to know how to upgrade and improve the management information system. In order to get the competitive advantage that the club needs, there are three problems that need to be solved and fixed. The three problems are consisting of communications with customers, vendors, and management for information system. Most of Club IT customers use the internet and their wireless communication devices for basically everything. The business also needs to downsize some of the vendor that the owners do business with. And Club IT management information system needs to be expanded out more. The solutions to these problems can be resolved by CRM (Customer Relationship Management), SCM (Supply Chain Management), and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). The owners of Club IT amplify their clientele through Customer Relationship Management. Some of the ways to get more customers is giving discount online by offering one free drink if purchase your ticket online to get in the club. Let the customer order their food online and let them have tracking number and expectation of when their food is ready. Have certain days that they can order advance tickets with a five percent discount, for example on Fridays and Saturdays. The Club IT T-shirts and hats have them in bundle package so the customer thinks they are getting a deal. The owners also... 3. Club IT, Part Two Over the last few months, Club IT has continued to develop into a successful nightclub with customers who use high quality mobile technology. The club?s IT infrastructure has provided a tremendous start on the growing business, but the time has come to improve the technology capabilities. Club IT will achieve this by implementing a supply chain manager (SCM), using an advanced customer resource manager (CRM), and building on and improving the enterprise resource planning software (ERP). At the present time, a supply is only ordered when the owners of Club IT,

Myths and Value Essay Example

Myths and Value Essay Example Myths and Value Essay Myths and Value Essay Essay Topic: Mythologies Treasure Island Myths and Value Name: Course: Date: Myths and Value Lesson 1 A myth is a traditionally told story about historical events usually meant to explain something or to instill certain beliefs and values. Most myths are held by members of a certain community or institution and they are known by all the members. They determine how the people carry themselves since they have some influence on the way they make their judgments. Myths are known to instill various values depending on the subjects they cover. Myths have various uses, which include preservation of social cultures such as Santa Claus, explaining mysterious natural phenomena and instilling morals among the people. Lesson 2 The Greek are among the communities with myths that they treasure up to date. One of the famous Greek myths is that of the boy who flew too high. It narrates the story of and a talented architect and inventor who were trying to escape the island of Crete with his son Icarius. They had been kept prisoners by king Minos due to Daedalus’ abilities. They wanted to go back home in spite of been adequately provided for in the island. Daedalus discovered that they could escape from the tower and use a boat as their get-away. He tricked the king into providing him with feathers and wax for an ongoing project, which he used to make wings. He worked on the wings at the rooftop until they were ready for use. Icarius and his father practiced flying with the wings until he could fly as good as his father. On the day they had planned their escape, Daedalus just like any other father gave his son some instruction. He told Icarius to always follow him and not take a different path since Daeda lus is the one who knew the way home. He instructed Icarius not to fly too low since his feathers would be filled with moisture, become heavy and make him sink into the sea. If he flew too high, the wax would melt away and the feathers would fall off. They both went to the rooftop ready for take-off. The father flew into the air first as the son followed. While in the air, Icarius discovered that he could fly without much effort and he forgot the instructions he had been given. He flew too close to the sun and immediately the wax began to melt and the feathers fell off. Before he could do anything, he was falling fast into the sea. His power of flight had been overtaken by the power of gravity. Lesson 3 This interesting narration is not just a story but it has various moral lessons. Icarius is used in the myth to represent the people in society who are rebellious and do not follow rules given to them. Icarius ignores the instructions given to him by his father, which result to his downfall. He is warned against going too close to the sun, which is exactly what he does, and the result is his fall into the sea. This means that people who do not follow instructions often end up in problems. For instance if you do not follow the doctor’s prescription, you could end up falling sicker or your ailment could persist. In the myth, Daedalus comes up with the ideas for the escape and goes ahead to invent the magical wings. This shows that a father should provide for his children and the welfare of his family should be a major concern to him. Daedalus leads Icarius into flying and he teaches him how to fly. Here, the role of a father is brought out by molding of the son in his childhood. By Daedalus, giving Icarius instructions shows his concern for his son. He even begged the son not to get too close to the son since he knew the consequences. Daedalus and his son were provided with comfort by king Minos but they still wanted to go back to their home. This teaches that east or west home is the best. Even if someone travels the world, home will always be the best place in the world since there is a lot of love from family. Their escape from the island where they were prisoners is a lesson that people should always make effort to make their lives better and not settle for destructive lives if they have the ability to improve their lifestyles. The name of the story is the boy who flew too high and it ends in tragedy of the boy falling into the sea after he refuses to adhere to the instructions given to him by his father. This warns against overdoing actions since ‘too much of something is dangerous’. Take eating as an example, if you eat too much you get a stomach upset and if you do not eat you get hungry. It is therefore wise for a person to eat just enough to satisfy him. The phrase ‘fly too high’ is used to denote success. In most cases when people become successful, they tend to be ignorant of rules and this leads to their downfall and this serves as a warning to them. The sun in this case represents evil that destroys people and makes them fall. Icarius falls when he gets too close to the sun. This is a moral teaching that evil should be avoided and people should instead do good deeds. References Graves, R. (1955). The Greek myths. Baltimore: Penguin Books. Eliot, A. (1976). Myths. Managing Financial Resources and Decisions Essay - 6

Managing Financial Resources and Decisions - Essay Example Failure to have a financial plan will always result in the organization being unable to meet its expenses whenever they arise (Berry, Jarvis, and Jarvis, 2005, p. 28). The success of any financial plan will largely depend on the effective disseminate of information to various decision makers within the organization. This is because it will ensure support and compliance among different stakeholders of the organization. It will also facilitate faster decision making which will ensure maximum utilization of business opportunities. Some of the key decision makers include: The CEO: he/she is responsible for the overall performance of the organization. The most important information for the CEO is the budget forecasts and financial statements. This information serves the purpose of providing information related to organizational needs and the overall performance of the business. The CFO: responsible for the allocation of the organization financial resources. The most important information for the CFO is the budget estimates because they present the financial needs of the organization. Other Employees: they are responsible for the running of daily activities within the company. The most important information is the company strategic plan which will guide their actions to ensure that the organization achieves its goals. The first option is the best among the three because the business will manage to get financing at no extra cost. The second and third options are not attractive because they result in payment of interest and issuance of stock respectively. Faulty arithmetic in the budget figures: the errors include the errors of commission or duplication of financial figures. For instance, Â £ 22,500 may have been duplicated on either materials or direct labor. The occurrence of reality: this is possible especially when there is an occurrence of an event that

The life expectancy of people living with this condition has gradually increased due to the availability of useful and established treatment opportunities. The percentage of mortality in the States continues to be high even though things like â€Å"omega-3 fatty acids, ÃŽ ²-blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors† have bettered the circumstances of these people. Vitamin B1, or better known as Thiamine, plays an integral part in the treatment of heart failure and is regarded as a clinical significant factor in the well-being of the heart. It also enhances the prognosis and general health of the patients. Heart failure can be caused by trace mineral deficiencies such as thiamine deficiency and therefore thiamine supplementation can be of great assistance in the treatment of this condition (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Vitamin B1 was the first out of eight B-vitamins to be identified, and ever since the discovery it was given several names, with Thiamine being used the most (DiNicolantonio, 2013). It is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning that it cannot be stored by the body and is obtained through food sources such as beef, nuts, milk and whole-grain foods (Ehrlich, 2011). Studies around the causes of beriberi by a Dutch physician and pathologist, Christiaan Eijkman, led to the discovery of Vitamin B1 in 1897. Beriberi is a widespread and sometimes deadly disease associated with heart failure. By 1926, vitamin B1 was separated into its pure form and given the name thiamine (Vitamins in Motion, 2013). More about Thiamine (Vitamin B1) Absorption The absorption of thiamine takes place in the jejunum with the aid of two processes. An active transport system in the small intestines is responsible for the absorption of thiamine once the levels drop below normal. Once the levels are too high, an inactive mucosal process occurs. The small intestines are capable of absorbing about 5 mg of thiamine. Tissues can reserve up to 30 mg of thiamine. The storing of thiamine is very important as the body cannot produce its own. The liver, heart, kidneys and brain are some of the organs which stores thiamine, with most of it found in the skeletal muscles (Nguyen-Khoa, 2013). Structure The structure of thiamine consists of a pyrimidine ring with the radical –NH2 and a thiazole ring. These two rings are connected with one another by means of a methylene bridge (Mouton, 2014:4). Thiamine found within living tissues have a diphosphate ester structure known as thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). TPP serves as a coenzyme that binds tightly to the apoenzyme (Ball, 1998:268). Functions There are four structures of thiamine that are present in all human beings. They include: thiamine monophosphate, thiamine diphosphate, thiamine triphosphate and unphosphorylated thiamine (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Thiamine is very important in the body as it operates as a coenzyme that converts carbohydrates into glucose, which in turn is used to provide energy. It also assists in the metabolism of fats and protein, and is essential for healthy eyes, hair, skin and liver (Ehrlich, 2011). Thiamine monophosphate can actively move into the central nervous system and nerves where it is capable of preserving the sodium and potassium concentrations. Sodium and potassium is required for nerve impulse conduction, and therefore it is vital for these levels to be maintained (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Thiamine is occasionally referred to as an â€Å"anti-stress† vitamin because of its ability to support the immune system and improve the ability of a person’s body to endure traumatic situations. People who suffer from vitamin B1 deficiency are deprived from these normal functions that the vitamin provides, and therefore they develop conditions such as dry and wet beriberi (Ehrlich, 2011). Thiamine deficiency Diets that are low or deficient in vitamin B1 can lead to Thiamine deficiency (beriberi) as well as constant (long-lasting) diarrhoea. Diarrhoea actually weakens the body’s capacity to take up vitamin B1 (Nguyen-Khoa, 2013). There are two forms of beriberi namely dry and wet beriberi. Dry beriberi involves the deficiency of thiamine that affects the nervous system while wet beriberi comprises of cardiovascular complications (DiNicolantonio, 2013). A potential reason as to why wet beriberi arises, because of thiamine deficiency, is based on the fact that ATP is depleted from the cardiac muscle cells. The decrease in ATP then leads to the weakening of the cardiac muscle, which in the long run causes heart failure. There will be an increase in the concentration of adenosine monophosphate in the cardiac muscle cells as a result of the inability of the cells to produce ATP. The adenosine monophosphate is then converted to adenosine, which then starts to accumulate in the cells and then finally leading to its release into the plasma by the aid of a nucleoside transporter. The manifestation of systemic vasodilatation and headaches is due to adenosine in the plasma (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Features of wet beriberi As a result of thiamine deficiency and specifically wet beriberi, patients will represent with cardiovascular symptoms. It will include swelling of cells and tissues because of excessive water build-up, lactic acidosis, fluid retention, systemic dilation of blood vessels and a high-or-low-output cardiac failure. In addition to the mentioned symptoms other signs such as increased levels of catecholamine and low diastolic pressure may be evident of wet beriberi (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Shoshin beriberi is known as an acute version of wet beriberi and these patients may show signs of an acute cardiovascular collapse as well as metabolic acidosis. If left untreated (i.e. if thiamine is not injected immediately) it may lead to death (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Epidemiology The prevalence of beriberi may be associated with the fact that milled rice was consumed by some populations all over the world. The external part of the rice that contained thiamine was removed by the milling process. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) there is a significant improvement in Indonesia where this process of removing the outer crust was and still is implemented. Back in the day beriberi was widespread and a health concern, but currently the occurrence is less common than what it was. Beriberi has a tendency to affect infants between 1 and 4 months as well as adults (Knott, 2010). Measurement of thiamine Direct detection is one of the methods used to measure the concentration of thiamine in the system. It can also be measured by determining enzyme activity of those enzymes that require thiamine for optimal functioning. There is more than one method that can be used to measure thiamine levels. Urinary and serum thiamine level estimation, red blood cell transketolase and TPP (thiamine pyrophosphate) analysis is some of the methods available. It is important to measure thiamine stores and amongst all current tests available there is still no consistent test usable for this purpose. Thiamine will move to the liver and enter the red blood cells soon after it has been absorbed in the jejunum. The amount of thiamine in blood ranges from 60-120 ÃŽ ¼g/L. From this total volume (concentration) about 80% will be found within the red blood cells. Because thiamine has a limited duration in the body, it is not reliable to measure serum levels or use it as a marker of thiamine stores (DiNicolantoni o, 2013). Excretion of thiamine in the distal nephron is also directly associated with the amount of thiamine in blood. However, the concentration will be dependent on recent intake only, and therefore isn’t indicative of thiamine sites (for storage) in the body. 24-hour urine samples are required for evaluating thiamine levels, and this may be tiresome for the individual (DiNicolantonio, 2013). So far the most effective and reliable test available is the â€Å"erythrocyte transketolase activity assay† that evaluates transketolase activity. In an artificial manner thiamine is added to the red blood cells followed by the measurement of transketolase activity. Transketolase cannot function without thiamine diphospahte. Because it requires the coenzyme for optimal functioning the action of the transketolase enzyme proves that there is indeed thiamine diphosphate in the cells. Since red blood cells are one of the first cell types to be affected by thiamine deficiency, it can be considered an accurate test procedure (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Treatment Thiamine supplements are essential to those individuals that suffer from dry or wet beriberi. It is recommended that 1.1-1.2 mg of thiamine supplements are administered on a daily basis. When it comes to wet beriberi the patient may require 100 mg/day intravenous thiamine supplementation for more than a few days. It has also been suggested that individuals whose chances are higher of developing the deficiency should receive 100 mg of supplements three times daily. In instances where there is a confirmed deficiency, an increased dosage of thiamine (from 100 to 200 mg) should be taken three times daily. The supplementation is critical for the management and treatment of this deficiency and it has been showed that there is substantial improvement in the condition after the person received treatment (DiNicolantonio, 2013). Prognosis Beriberi is not that difficult to treat. With proper treatment one can expect to see a significant recovery, even in more severe types of this deficiency. Within 12 hours of supplementation one can notice an improvement. Because treatment provides for more rapid recovery, it can almost be used as a diagnostic test. Overall the prognosis is fairly good (Nguyen-Khoa, 2013). Conclusion Individuals who suffer from heart failure are more prone to develop vitamin deficiencies such as thiamine deficiency. It is therefore important to limit any nutritional defects to prevent such deficiencies from occurring. This is a controllable condition and with necessary treatment one can expect substantial improvements. The use of vitamin B1 has demonstrated to better heart function, urinary function as well as symptoms of heart failure (DiNicolantonio, 2013). References Ball, G.F.M. (1998). What is Passover? Essay -- essays research papers fc

What is Passover? Its History and Traditions Passover is one of the oldest festivals in the world. This festival falls in spring, in the first month of the Hebrew year, called Nisan (March-April), and lasts for eight days, from the fifteenth to the twenty-third. It commemorates the release of the Israelites from Egypt and the fact that God â€Å"passed over† their houses when he sought the first-born in that land.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  According to the Bible, the story of Passover runs as follows. A group of Hebrews known as the sons of Jacob came down from Canaan towards Egypt. They settled under a benevolent regime, where they were made slaves and set to work, building the cities of Pithum and Raamses. The pharaoh ordered all the Hebrew sons to be killed at birth. A Hebrew mother placed her infant child into a box and placed him in the Nile River, to escape the pharaoh’s decree. The Pharaoh’s daughter found this Hebrew baby, called him Moses, took him home and raised him.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One day, he saw a brutal attack upon a Hebrew by an Egyptian overseer; enraged by the attack Moses killed the Egyptian. Fearing to be killed for killing an Egyptian, he fled to Midian, where he married the daughter of a local priest. On one occasion while attending the sheep of his father-in-law on Mount Horeb, Moses witnessed a spectacle of a burning bush. This bush seemed some how not to consume. Wondering what was happening, he came closer to the bush and the local god Yahweh (Jehovah) told him that the Israelites were suffering, and that he had been chosen to release them from Egypt and lead them to the paradisal land, what is known now as Palestine and Syria. Moses had to introduce Jehovah to the Israelites, and after they had adopted him, he had to go to the Pharaoh and request the release of the people.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  To show that it was indeed Jehovah, who had spoken to Moses, Moses was furnished with three magical credentials. First, his staff was turned into a serpent and then reverted to its normal shape. Second, when he placed his hand under his sleeve, it became leprous and then it recovered when he removed it. Third, he was told that if the people persisted in questioning his mission, he was to give them visible proof by turning water from the Nile into blood before their eyes.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As commissioned, ... ...ortance, enabling the person to be aware of gratitude, and to widen an individual’s perspective of himself/herself in relation to his/her fellow human beings. The Feast of Freedom, called Passover, is an example of a meaningful story showing God’s intent to convey a balance between the Hebrews’ self concerns and the concerns of their enemies, as God reminds the Hebrew to pray for the fallen Egyptians army and the slain first-borns of the Egyptian families. Passover’s concept of freedom is not only a cause for celebration, but also a strong lesson in the value of how a person should conduct oneself or a group should conduct itself to other human beings. Importance Of Adequate Prenatal Care Health And Social Care Essay

Critical analysis of research surveies is one of the most of import stairss towards incorporation of grounds into pattern ( Burns & A ; Grove, 2007 ) . This paper is an effort towards accomplishing this end. The paper critically analyzes the article â€Å" Group prenatal attention and preterm birth weight: Consequences from a matched cohort survey at public clinics † by Ickovics et al. ( 2003 ) . This purpose will be achieved by consecutive reviewing the research job, the literature reappraisal, rules of research moralss employed in the survey, the underlying theoretical model, the research hypothesis, the sampling technique, the research design, informations aggregation methods, the analysis, and the recommendation proposed by the writers. Finally, the paper will stop with an overall assessment of the strength and restrictions of the survey.Rationale:This peculiar research paper was analyzed as the construct of group prenatal attention has non been investigated in item yet. W hile reexamining the literature on the stated subject the limited supporting groundss for group prenatal attention was found. Merely 01 RCT ( Ickovics et al.2007 ) , 01 matched cohort survey ( Ickovics et al.2003 ) , and 03 pilot surveies with descriptive analysis were found ( Baldwin, 2006 ; Grady and Bloom, 1998 ; Rising, 1998 ) . The comparative analysis of all 05 surveies is shown in appendix 1. Chosen survey is the lone one which examined the impact of group versus single prenatal attention on birth weight and gestational age.DiscussionThe job:The job studied by Ickovics et Al. ( 2003 ) is that, whether group prenatal attention has a important impact on the perinatal result like birth weight, and gestational age. This job is highly important to nursing, for a figure of grounds. The first ground as described by Ickovics EL Al. ( 2003 ) , is the important relationship of these perinatal results with â€Å" neonatal morbidity and mortality † ( p. 1052 ) . Neonatal mortality is one of the countries of concern for nursing due to high mortality rates around the universe and particularly in developing states ( Straughn et al.,2003 ) .Purpose:The intent for carry oning the survey has been explicitly stated by Ickovics et Al. ( 2003 ) . The declared intent can be accomplished really good because both the results that are birth weight and gestational age, are measureable and therefore the research job is testable ( Haber & A ; Cameon, 2005 ) . A quantitative attack is suited for this survey as the variables are quantifiable and can be described objectively in Numberss. Ickovics et Al. ( 2003 ) have introduced the job statement after giving a brief background of the importance of the equal prenatal attention, and the factors that determine the equal prenatal attention. They so introduce the topic of group antenatal attention as a â€Å" structural invention † in the sphere of antenatal attention ( Ickovicd et al. , 2003, p. 1052 ) , and so portion the job statement that this advanced method of proviso of prenatal attention has non been tested yet. The writers have stated the implicit in premises of the survey. Ickovics et Al. ( 2003 ) believe that more clip the pregnant adult females spent together, the better will be their apprehension of the wellness behaviours, and they will have more societal support from each other. This will cut down their hazard behaviours for case smoke taking to low birth weight. The restrictions of the survey have besides been discussed explicitly in the article Ickovics et Al. ( 2003 ) admit that their survey is limited because of non-random choice of the adult females for group antenatal attention. The restriction is realistic because the pattern was already in topographic point and research workers wanted to detect the results in relation to the two different attacks to care. Furthermore, this is an built-in characteristic of the cohort design that the groups are selected on the footing of their exposure or non-exposure to a peculiar phenomenon which is non controlled by the research worker, inste ad the pick is made by the topic themselves. This characteristic of the cohort design makes it prone to â€Å" choice prejudice. â€Å" ( Rochon et al. , 2005 ) .Reappraisal of LiteratureThe reappraisal of the literature presented by Ickovics et al. , ( 2003 ) is comprehensive. It starts by stressing the importance of equal prenatal attention in footings of perinatal results. It so focuses on the factors that make the prenatal attention adequate. The writers so depict the group antenatal attention as a construction invention designed to do the prenatal attention adequate, and they appreciate that this new attack has non been tested yet for its efficaciousness in bettering antenatal results. The reappraisal so proceeds with a brief description of Centering Pregnancy Program and its constituents, which eventually leads to the statement of intent of the survey. The reappraisal ends with a principle for the choice of survey population that is black and Latinas adult females who are vu lnerable for inauspicious perinatal outcomes. There is an apparent relationship of the reappraisal with the intent of survey in that the writers have presented merely those surveies that are pertinent to perinatal attention and that have established the efficaciousness of group attention in other population. The reappraisal includes a mix of recent and old surveies. As this survey was accepted for publication in 2003, most of the surveies cited in the reappraisal were non current, that is those surveies were non published in the last five old ages of the day of the month when this survey was accepted for publication ( Burns & A ; Groove, 2007 ) ; and there are merely 10 out of 26 surveies, that were current and were published in the last five old ages of the day of the month of credence of the survey under consideration, for publication. The reappraisal clearly indicates that the other intercessions that have been planned to augment antenatal attention were non found to be effectual in bettering the adult females ‘s perinatal result.Ethical Consideration:The survey has been designed in a mode that there are minimal hazards to the topics. Since this is a non experimental survey and merely intends to detect the impact of an intercession that is already in advancement without pull stringsing any of the variables, hence there are minimum hazards associated with it ( Rochon et al, 2005 ) . However, the research workers have non made any excess attempt to maximise the benefits for the topics. There is no reference of how and when informed consent was attained from the topics, but this may hold non been reported as it was an experimental survey and most likely was related to quality betterment and do non necessitate consent. The research workers have obtained the blessing of research from institutional reappraisal boards at these clinics. Besides, at one point, the writers have described their attempts to keep namelessness of the topics. The writers explained t hat while choosing matched cohort for the survey they entered all the information needed to choose the cohort, except for the patient designation information.Theoretical/Conceptual Model:The survey is based on an implicit in model that is the focus oning gestation theoretical account. The implicit in premises of the survey are derived from the theoretical account that includes the belief that larning in groups promote shared support, alteration in behaviour, and job resolution accomplishments and it has important impact on the birth result ( Rising, 1998 ) . The principle for the usage of the model is apparent from the fact that the full construct of group prenatal attention is based on this theoretical account and implicit in premises. In fact, the research job and the intent are besides derived from the same theoretical account, because the intent of the survey is to analyze the impact of group antenatal attention.Hypothesis:The hypothesis to be tested by the survey is officially stated in the article. The hypothesis is derived from the research job and hence predicts that â€Å" babies of adult females in group prenatal attention would hold significantly higher birth weight and be less likely to be delivered preterm compared with those who received single prenatal attention † ( Ickovics et Al, 2003, p. 1052 ) . This is a complex hypothesis as it predicts the relationship between one independent variable ( proviso of group antenatal attention ) , and two independent variables ( birth weight and gestational age ) . The hypothesis can besides be categorized as directional hypothesis, as it predicts the expected way of the relationship between proviso of group prenatal attention, birth weight, and gestational age. Harmonizing to Polit & A ; Beck ( 2008 ) â€Å" a directional hypothesis indicates that the research worker has rational committedness to the hypothesized result, which might ensue in prejudice. † ( p.99 ) . Haber & A ; Cameron ( 2005 ) hence suggest that directional hypothesis should merely be formed on the footing of sound literature groundss and theoretical footing. In this instance, Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have got sound literature support, and since group prenatal attention is one of the ways to augment the content of antenatal attention ; hence, the writers have hypothesized that group prenatal attention will take to improved birth weight and gestational age. Besides, there is sound theoretical base to this hypothesis, as it is based on the focus gestation theoretical account. The hypothesis is spelled out clearly and it objectively describes the result variables ( Polit & A ; Back, 2008 ) , that is perinatal results have been quantified and objectively described as birth weight and gestational age.Sampling:Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) clearly described the population as â€Å" Black and Hispanic pregnant adult females of low socioeconomic position, come ining antenatal attention at 24 or less hebdomads of gestation. † ( p.1051 ) .The writers have besides described in item the features of the sample such as race, age, para, and metropolis of abode. The elaborate and comprehensive description of the sample gives an in deepness apprehension of the sample ‘s features and determines the generalisation of the findings to a specific population based on these features ( Haber & A ; Singh, 2005 ) . In this instance, looking at the features of the sample, the findings can be generalized to black and Latino pregnant adult females of low socioeconomic group, aged 25 or younger, as more than 85 % of the sample consisted of black adult females who were 25 old ages old or younger. Sample ‘s features help in determine heterogeneousness or homogeneousness of the sample ( Haber & A ; Singh, 2005 ) . In this instance, some of the sample ‘s features that had the possible to move as cofounders, for case age, race, para, history of preterm labour and entire fi gure of visits were matched in both the groups. This resulted in homogeneousness among the two groups in footings of the above mentioned features. The matching of the two groups on the footing of these features besides reduced the possible sampling prejudice that could hold resulted if the groups would ‘ve been different in footings of these features and the ensuing wellness behaviours. If the groups were non matched, these differences in groups could hold accounted for the differences in results, instead than intercession itself. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have described the sample choice procedure in item. They have besides indicated the possible sampling prejudice due to miss of randomisation while inscribing topics in group prenatal attention. Women, who voluntarily enrolled themselves in the group antenatal attention programme at the clinics, were recruited as participants in the group that received group prenatal attention. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have besides comprehensively described the controls that they have utilized to minimise trying mistake or trying prejudice, that is, they have indiscriminately selected the comparing group through a computing machine programme on the footing of first available patient with closest bringing day of the month, by fiting some of the features of the intervention group. The clinics from where the topics were recruited were besides selected by non chance trying method, choosing merely those clinics that served minority adult females from low socio economic background. The non chance trying method employed in the survey fits good with the degree of enquiry and design of the survey as Haber & A ; Singh ( 2005 ) supported â€Å" non experimental surveies normally use non chance, purposive sampling method. † ( p. 53 ) The sample size taken by Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) , that is N=458 is sufficiently big. Each group had 229 research topics. The sufficiency of the sample size was assured by carry oning a power analysis that â€Å" 229 braces had a power of 0.80 to observe a little effectaˆÂ ¦reflecting the ability to observe a difference between the two intervention groups of 155 g. † ( p. 1053 ) . Harmonizing to Burns & A ; Groove ( 2007 ) the power of 0.8 is the minimal acceptable degree of power for any survey.Research Design:Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have used cohort design, which is besides known as longitudinal prospective design. The cohort design, which is a non experimental design, is appropriate for the degree of enquiry of the survey. In this the research workers intended to analyze the difference between the results of the adult females who received group perinatal attention versus who received single attention. LoBiondo-Wood, Haber & A ; Singh ( 2005 ) supported that longitudina l design is rather appropriate for proving the difference between the two groups in footings of results variables. However, Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) could hold used an experimental design for this survey, if they wanted to find the cause and consequence relationship between the group prenatal attention and perinatal results. This would besides hold assured randomisation of topics into intercession and control group and would hold given a higher degree of grounds. However, they may hold chosen non experimental survey design instead than experimental design to analyze the impact of group prenatal attention in a natural scene, and non in a control survey puting. As discussed in the sampling subdivision, possible effects of unwanted variables like race, age, para, metropolis of abode, history of preterm labour, and entire figure of antenatal visits have been controlled by Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) by fiting the cohorts on the footing of these features, in order to guarantee important inter nal cogency of the survey ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) . Besides, Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have recruited a big sample to guarantee a power of 0.8 for the survey, which is besides one of the ways to maximise the internal cogency of the survey ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) .Data Collection:Before informations aggregation the research workers have to operationalize the variables of involvement ( Sullivan-Bolyani, et al 2005 ) . Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have operationalized gestational age as term or preterm based on the hebdomads of gestation as measured by the last catamenial period and ultrasound. Subjects ‘ demographics information and the figure of antenatal visits were obtained from the medical records of the clinic. It has non been mentioned that who determined gestational age through ultrasound, who measured the newborn ‘s weight, and who retrieved informations from medical records. It is truly of import to cognize who collected informations in order to set up its truth, as the expertness and preparation of the information aggregator has important impact on the rightness and preciseness of informations ( Sullivan-Bolyai et Al, 2005 ) .Quantitative Analysis:Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have used both descriptive and illative statistics to analyze the information. Since the intent of the survey was to analyze the differences between the two groups, therefore the illative statistics was used that is McNemar trial, which is appropriate to the degree of enquiry due to fit groups. It is besides appropriate to the cohort design as this design besides intends to mensurate differences between the two groups, in footings of result variables ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) . The other illative statistical trial used is paired t-test which is besides appropriate for the survey as it is used to prove differences between the agencies of two groups that are matched or paired with each other on the footing of certain features ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) . Another statistic used in the survey is the F statistic. It appears as if the writers have used F statistic when using multiple additive arrested development because F statistic has been used while bespeaking the interaction consequence between birth weight and preterm bringing ( p. 1054 ) . Linear arrested development is used to explicate how much variableness in result variable is attributable to the independent variable ( Burns & A ; Groove, 2007 ) . The writers have used descriptive statistic to depict the distribution of demographic variables among the topics like age, race and para. They besides have used descriptive analysis to depict the distribution of demographic variables among the distribution of results variables ( birth weight and gestational age ) among the sample. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have used parametric every bit good as non parametric statistics, for case t-test for matched braces is a parametric trial while McNemar trial is a non parametric trial. As few variables have been measured on the ratio degree of measuring, for case figure of antenatal visits, hence Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) had the autonomy to use parametric statistic. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) had measured the result variables of birth weight and gestational age on nominal degree. The birth weight was categorized as low birth weight ( less than 2500 g ) , and really low birth weight ( less than 1500 g ) and the gestational age was categorized as term or preterm ( less than 37 hebdomads of gestation ) . Therefore, research workers were besides able to use non parametric statistic that is McNemar trial ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) . The consistence in the consequences of descriptive and illative statistics confirms the rightness of the findings ( Polit & A ; Beck, 2008 ) . There is a logical nexus between the statistical analysis and the findings of the survey. Besides, there is consistence in the consequences presented in Numberss and consequence presented in text, for case in the above illustration, the statistical consequence shows p & lt ; 0.01 which is statistically important, and this is good supported by the account that is birth weight was greater in babies of adult females who received group prenatal attention versus single prenatal attention. However, Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have non explicitly stated whether they have taken unvarying degree of significance for all the statistical trials performed or are different for each trial, and if so so what is the degree of significance for each trial. The graphical and tabular presentations are accurate and appropriate and lucifers with the findings presented in text ( Sullivan-Bolyayi, et Al, 2005 ) . The statistics presented in these tabular arraies and the graphs are harmonizing to their appropriate degree of measuring. For case in table 2, mean and standard divergences have merely been calculated for the birth weight which is the lone ratio degree informations in that tabular array, the other variables that are at nominal degree of measuring were calculated in per centums ( Sullivan-Bolyayi, et Al, 2005 ) . The writers have non merely established the significance of findings, but they have besides described the clinical significance of the consequences.Decision and Recommendations:The consequences derived from informations analysis are clearly stated and explained with mention to the research inquiry and hypothesis. The findings are stated compactly and the writers have related their findings with the research intent and its i mplicit in premises. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have discussed that the findings can be generalized among adult females who are vulnerable for preterm births. This seems to be an overgeneralization beyond the survey population, because the survey sample and the mark population was black and Latino adult females who were high hazard for preterm birth and were of low socioeconomic position. These findings may non be applicable to all the adult females who are at hazard of preterm births without stipulating their ethnicity and socioeconomic position. Ickovics et Al ( 2003 ) have besides discussed the possible benefits of implementing the findings. The writers have besides recommended that farther research needs to be done for finding the exact mechanisms involved in group prenatal attention that consequences in improved perinatal result. Another recommendation is to widely use group antenatal attention in future, nevertheless, the writers besides appreciate that it is non easy to present such large structural alterations.Strengths and restrictions of the survey:Overall, the survey is a good attempt in analyzing the impact of group antenatal attention on perinatal results. A good formulated hypothesis, relevant and comprehensive literature reappraisal, an in deepness history of sample ‘s features, good thought research design and statistical analysis are strengths of the survey. However, randomisation of topics at the clip of enlisting, employment of research moralss such as voluntary engagement and realistic generalisation of the findings would hold added more strength to it.Appendix 1Pregnancy results: Group vs single prenatal attentionSurveyStudy DesignResults: Group Vs Individual Prenatal CareOR ( 95 % CI )NNTIckovics JR et Al ( 2007 ) . Into the Woods

Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim, blends various familiar fairy tales into an original story of a childless Baker and his Wife, who catalyze the action of the story by attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child. In the first act, the characters set out to achieve their goal of living "Happily Ever After" through familiar routes and at the end of Act I, all characters seem poised to live "Happily Ever After". Act Two, however, deals with the consequences that traditional fairy tales conveniently ignore. As they face a genuine threat to their community, they realize that all actions have consequences, and their lives are inescapably interdependent, but also that that interdependence is their greatest strength. Act one begins with an introduction of the main characters, many of whom need little or no introduction. Henry Austin Bragg and Emily Gatesman are comically wonderful as the Baker and the Baker's Wife, which are the two central characters, and Wendy Fox plays the Wicked Witch, who splendidly portrays the motherly side of a witch. Erin Sauter plays Cinderella, who is terribly confused about what she wants, Kevin Quillon plays Jack, whose greed starts to take over what little common sense he has and Tina Ghandchilar plays Little Red Riding Hood, whose hunger for food turns into a hunger for blood. The play is based on the different obstacles the characters face in achieving their wish and how they work through them to reach a happy ending. The main conflict is between the Baker and his Wife who desperately want to have a child and the Wicked Witch who sends them on a journey into the woods to break the spell she has placed upon their family. The Baker and his wife need four things to break the spell, and each have a connection to one of the other main characters. While they are trying to obtain their items from the other characters, the Baker and the Baker's Wife have conflict amongst them...

In favor of the border wall Professor Ramos Blog

In favor of the border wall The border between Mexico and the United States was never secure, literally and figuratively, it consisted of an old, beet up, chain link fence. The fence did not really do the job it was put there to do, which was to clearly define the boundaries between Mexico and the United States. The fence was a laughing stalk, flimsy and full of holes, clearly letting everyone who sized it up know we really didn’t care that much to protect our boundaries. Building a better, more efficient wall, which speaks to our credibility, has been addressed, thanks to President Trump. This is a great idea. I will provide evidence to support that this idea is great in my report. I will also provide reasons behind the walls opposition and tear them down. Having a fortified boundary will help to eliminate the number of drugs that come into the country. Presently, Mexico accounts for perhaps more than half of U.S. imports of Marijuana and Heroin, also moving large amounts of cocaine (Reuter, Ronfeldt v). Mexico has been a platform for many types of smuggling in the United States for a long time, including stolen automobiles and migrant workers. These operations have been highly organized and developed rapidly during the 70’s. Through corruption in Mexico’s political system many powerful smugglers have been able to establish positions of protection for themselves (Reuter, Ronfeldt v). Destined for the U.S. market, Mexican production of heroin and marijuana rose rapidly throughout the late nineteen eighties. For at least fifty years, the U.S. has been pressing the Mexican government for more stringent drug control, their refusal to allow U.S. agencies to closely monitor the functioning of drug control has exacerbated tensio n between the two countries. The U.S. government can do very little, if, as some officials and analysts believe, corruption has impeded more effect drug control. The roots of corruption go deep in Mexico and cannot be substantially reduced by U.S. pressures. It has been argued that most of the drugs that enter the country from Mexico come through ports of entry, this is true, however, most is not all, and drugs are still entering by crossing the borders. The border wall will tremendously slow down drug imports to the U.S. Restrictions against illegal immigrants, combined with anti-immigrant hostility in the United States has created an economy of generally undesirable jobs (143). This illegal economy now involves prostitution and trafficking. Prostitutes supplied by Mexican traffickers have customers who are men from immigrant communities as well as non-Latino U.S. men. Woman and girls in prostitution are purchased everyday by thousands of male tourists who enter Mexico from the United States. Seeking jobs in the United States, woman and youth must rely on labor traffickers who then lure them into sex trafficking with false promises of jobs, sometimes kidnapping them and selling them. In 2003, an investigation was done on the trafficking of Mexican girls to brothels near San Diego. Hundreds of girls from ages twelve to eighteen from rural Mexico were either tricked or kidnapped into the U.S. border by traffickers or pimps, over a ten-year period. More than fifty brothels and outdoor farm labor sexual exploitation camps in San Diego County are controlled by criminal networks (150). Trafficked girls are sold to military personnel, U.S. tourists, and migrant farm workers. Caves made of reeds served as brothels at the edge of a field, was discovered in one particular case. Many of the girls even had children whose lives were threatened as leverage not to escape. Everyday hundreds of farm workers sexually assaulted these girls in prostitution after being transported to these sexual slavery camps. The wall along with the cameras and Law Enforcement officials at the border will provide more protection both for the U.S. but also for Hispanic woman and girls. A young woman who, known only as Maria, escaped from human traffickers and witnessed babies and children being â€Å"sold to order† to US citizens, did an interview with channel four news. Maria had experiences inside one of the gangs and had â€Å"significant information† and possessed a â€Å"remarkable memory† of things that went on inside. Maria told of Mexican and US gangs working together to supply a demand in the US. Maria was 16 when she was lured into the gang. Maria said the gang sold young women to the US as sex slaves after being held in a house on the Mexican border. Maria had been promised a job and given presents by gang members but was instead drugged, raped, and sold to men. Maria said these men also dealt in children and remembered one occasion when the gang was contacted by a woman in New York who needed a nine-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl in three days. The gangs would prowl the streets of poor areas looking for children and steal th em. The US state department estimates more than 20,000 young woman and children are trafficked across the border each year. (thegaurdian.com) The border wall will provide more protection to victims of human and sex trafficking. Illegal aliens frequently enter the country in search of work opportunities. Many employers welcome them in exchange for paying them lower wages then they would have to pay U.S. workers. This employment is illegal under the immigration control and reform act (IRCA). Employers ignore this law completely and knowingly hire illegal workers. Others hire illegal workers not knowing they’ve used fake documents because they have failed to properly vet the employees. There is no requirement to verify documents presented by workers therefore this failure to properly vet is made easy and E-verify, an electronic system to verify documents, is voluntary on a nationwide basis, therefore employers do not have to comply. Defenders of illegal aliens, religious organizations, business lobbyists, and ethnic advocacy groups assert that illegal aliens only take jobs Americans will not do, â€Å"This is patently false because they are working in jobs in which U.S. workers are also employed- weath er in construction, agriculture harvesting, or service professions†. (www.fairus.org) When it is prevalent in a sector of the economy to hire illegal alien workers employers rely on illegal workers who will work for less in order to protect their bottom line. The wall will also help bring back more jobs for law abiding citizens. One reason for not wanting the wall is that â€Å"†¦.it does not reflect the reality of how the large majority of persons now become undocumented† (125). In many cases studies have shown the majority of immigrants did not illegally cross a border, they were admitted on non-immigrant visas, and then violated the terms of their visas or overstayed their admission period. One study in 2014 found that two thirds or sixty six percent of those who arrived were overstays. This does bring new information to light; however, it also points out that if sixty six percent were overstays then forty four percent did actually enter illegally. That number is still significant. This report represents information about the undocumented population’s mode of arrival in 2014. This trend has changed since 2005 when most arrivals were EWI’s (entries without inspection). This article questions the ability of a wall to address these issues. However, a wall will assert authority and d emand respected boundaries. When you break the law, you should be punished. Legal action against law violations should not be singled out for only U.S. citizens, therefore it should not even be possible to enter illegally. I do not think it is right to come into someone’s home and start off by breaking the law. As for the argument of the wall being racist. Inanimate objects cannot be racist. All countries have the right to secured borders. A country without secured borders is not a country. Furthermore, we can’t ignore the security of the country because it makes some people uncomfortable. So, in short, the wall will protect us from illegal drug smuggling, protect woman and young girls from being sold into sex trafficking, provide more jobs to tax paying, Law abiding citizens. The wall is a great idea. Martin, Nick. â€Å"Mexican woman tells of ordeal with cross-border child traffickers.† The Guardian. 2019 Guardian news and media limited or its affiliated companies. The movie Maria Full of Grace Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The movie Maria Full of Grace - Essay Example Maria, Frida and Tita are women that become faced with challenges in life and had to make hard decisions. In Maria Full of Grace, the character Maria is the main character becomes faced with difficult situations in life. Maria Together with other two girls, engage in transporting large quantities of cocaine, from Colombia to New York. At a tender age of 17 years, the young Colombian girl becomes forced to go into selling drugs after she remained the only daughter her family depended on. Despite her harsh economic status even after quiting job from her previous employer. In addition to her problems, she still got pregnant and refused to marry the guy. With increased financial pressure coming from both sides, Maria decided to make a terrible decision. Maria decides to join the Cocaine business as a transporter while in her pregnancy state just to raise money for the up keep of the unborn and her family. In comparison to Tito in the movie Like Water for Chocolate, she also became faced with challenges that made her take appropriate choices. In the beginning of the movie, one could realize the undying love Tita and Piedro had for each other, though her mother, Mama Elena did not consent their union. Piedro ends up marrying his eldest sister, Rosaura. Tita continued her pursuit for her lover by ensuring she cared her nephew after birth more than her sister. Her mother on realizing how Piedro and Tita came closer each day due to the Rosaura’s child, she arranges for Piedro and Rosaura to move to a distant place. This stressed Tita as she was deeply in love with Piedro and his son. The main character in the film Frida, also proved to be a strong willed woman. Even after getting polio, getting involved in an accident, she still manages to pull herself together and learn how to walk. It is her determination to walk after such an accident that shocks many. Furthermore, after recovery from the hospital, Frida manages to walk, but in pain. Are they fit choices or no t? From the three movies, a lot could be derived from the hardships they underwent to become what they did. These women hard to make tough choices some of which were inimical while others good. Tina after struggling with Mother Elena in life and even after life with her ghost, eventually becomes freed from the snare of tradition to marry her true love Piedro despite the many challenges that stood on her way. Tita knew that her eldest sister became forced to marry Piedro in an attempt to obey traditions and hence still persisted knowing Piedro will do in response. The story hence is a love story of two lovers that became bound to be together for life and afterlife. The main obstacle to Tita was her mother, Elena whom hated her. For instance, even after getting hurt after raiders injured her, she still refused food brought to her by Tita, eventually dying due to ingesting overdose of emetics. Tita’s choice of loving Piedro for life proved a terrific idea. For instance, after Pi edro and his wife moved to San Antonio with their child, it died since it was deriving its love from Tita. In as much as she was the youngest in the family, she treated her mother well, though her mother treated her badly. In the movie, when she becomes tormented by the ghost of Elena, she made a decision to condemn it. This ended up badly as Piedro became consumed with the dying flame from the ghost. Another decision Tita made was telling her husband John of her undying love for Piedro. John accepts, but just tells her to decide. Tita eventually agrees to get married to Piedro which they end up enjoying their passion to death. Maria engages in the illegal

What Holes Has The Financial Crisis Revealed In The G8 Will The G20 Essay

What Holes Has The Financial Crisis Revealed In The G8 Will The G20 Fill Such Holes - Essay Example World’s wealthiest country; America was the major sufferer of this crisis. In fact many people believe that America was responsible for stimulating recent global recession. The unhealthy lending habits of American banks and the crazy life styles of American public have given momentum to the recent financial crisis. G8 and G20 are two of the major coalitions in the world at present. G20 was proposed by former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin in 1999 to deal with international financial matters. Sustainable development is the major theme of G20. It is also interested in solving global energy crisis, economic problems, demographic problems etc. Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, United States, India, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and European Union are the members of G20. On the other hand the Group of seven (G-7) comprises Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United states. â€Å"The G7 is often referred to as G8 because Russia fully participated in all but financial and certain economic discussions of G7 since the 1998 Birmingham summit†. Before the formation of G7, G6 was formed in 1974 by world's major industrialized democracies such as United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, West Germany, Japan and France. In 1975 Canada joined G6 and it became G7. Russia joined G7 in 1997 to make it G8. Since, its formation G8 contributed heavily to global economy. Fratianni, et al (2005) pointed out that â€Å"The world without G8 would be more brutish and riskier than it is now† (p.4). The recent financial crisis has unveiled many of the loopholes in G8 functioning whereas G20 stood well to the challenges raised by the recession. It should be noted that G8 consists of mainly European and American countries whereas G20 consists of countries from Asia also. It is often said that global wealth is currently shifting from America a nd Europe to Asia at present. This is evident from the fact that most of the prominent Asian countries escaped from recession problems whereas American and European countries are still struggling for survival. In other words, G8 failed miserably in tackling recession problems whereas G20 managed these problems well, mainly because of the contributions of Asian countries. This paper analyses the loopholes in G8 in tackling recession problems and the ability of G20 in filling that loopholes. What holes has the financial crisis revealed in the G8? Even though G8 countries are believed to be the wealthiest countries in the world, recent financial crisis has unveiled the loopholes in the governance of these countries. According to Fratianni et al. (2007), â€Å"Today, the G8 leaders are dealing directly with central question of how to build better global governance in both public and private sphere† (p.23). As a result of globalization, privatization is taking place at rapid pace in most of the countries. Moreover, governments in G8 countries are privatizing many of the publicly owned companies to stay away from the responsibilities of servicing the people. It is a fact that private capital is essential for the economic growth of a country. However, uncontrolled private capital in critical sectors may bring more harm than good. India like emerging economies is allowing private participation cautiously even though they are following mixed economic policies. On the other hand, China does not allow private capital in critical sectors even though they are doing everything possible to encourage private capital on all other sectors. G8 countries on the other hand allowing private companies to invest at will in all major industrial

Difference in Hercules and Spiderman Essay Example for Free

Difference in Hercules and Spiderman Essay In many Greek hero myths and stories, protagonists are presented with a series of hardships or task they must past. In the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton Hercules tries to achieve atonement. He brainlessly accepts all the challenges that Eurystheus gave him, while Spiderman thinks thoroughly before he performs his actions. The tradition of achieving atonement has deteriorated away from modern culture myths. In the book Spiderman the hero of Stan Lee’s novels, Spiderman tries to achieve security and stability for his community. Hercules is driven to serve the society because of his guilt while Spiderman serves the society willingly, which shows the difference between the Greek and modern idea about serving the society. The guilt that drives Hercules and the effort to make the society a better place drives Spiderman, shows that the idea of atonement has faded away in modern myths. Greek heroes such as Hercules show heroism that is not displayed in modern day myths. Heroes such as Hercules do many things without thinking such as, encountering many creatures and performing tasks they would have never thought possible. For example, as Hercules tries to achieve atonement for the horrible acts that he has committed against his family and he must complete twelve tasks, one of which involves going down into the underworld: â€Å"His task was to bring Cerberus, the three-headed dog, up from Hades† (Hamilton 174). This task requires a lot of strength and courage as mentioned by Hamilton, â€Å"He lifted him and carried him all the way up to earth and on to Mycenae† (Hamilton 174). Without Hercules this task could not be accomplished by anyone. All twelve of the tasks that Hercules was to perform didn’t not require much intelligence or cleverness, just strength. In many Greek myths there are no brains involved in the deed or action executed, just senseless killing and other tests of strength. On the other hand Spiderman performs his heroic acts with not only with his strength but also with intelligence. By using intelligence Spiderman has a much better chance of accomplishing his duty. For example, while the Green Goblin tied up Spiderman he was, â€Å"†¦to quickly think how to escape† (Lee 87). Greek myths have evolved form heroes performing actions brainlessly to heroes performing action with intellectual aid. Many Greek heroes perform lawful acts for their community that modern day heroes do not perform. Many Greek heroes serve their community because they want to achieve atonement for the acts that they have performed. In the case of Hercules, â€Å"†¦a wrong who has sent the madness upon him† (Hamilton 169). Hercules had gone mad after his wife, Megara has borne him three sons, â€Å"He killed his children and Megara, too, as she tried to protect the youngest (Hamilton 169). As the story continues to go on Hercules lives the rest of his life wanting to avenge his own life for the awful act that he has committed. As Hercules rushes out to kill himself his friend Theseus stood before him telling him why he shouldn’t kill himself: â€Å"Even so, suffer and be strong,† (Hamilton 170). Theseus is implying that that Hercules should be strong and wait for death because, â€Å"†¦ he rejected the idea that a man could be guilty of a murder when he had not known what he was doing† (Hamilton 170). And so Hercules went on to his cousin Eurystheus and there his cousin gave him twelve tasks that he must perform in order to achieve death. As Hercules performs this action, he almost accomplishes them with ease and after finishing all of the tasks no death had been brought upon him so he brought death upon himself, and therefore avenged his actions against his family. In the case of Spiderman, he serves his community in order to have a safe and secure community for himself and for the city. Spiderman willingly risks his life to keep the community in which he lives a safe place. Clearly myths and stories have evolved from serving the community in order to achieve eternal piece to thinking about others and performing deeds for others. In conclusion, Hercules and Spiderman have many differences but their biggest difference is that Hercules performs his duties and heroic acts brainlessly, while Spiderman performs his heroic duties with intelligence and strategy. Our modern day myths no longer have the idea of atonement instead, the heroes serve their community willingly. This is what makes a hero a true hero.
